One of the most hard-working and professional truck drivers on our fleet is Alejandro Silva Smaine.

We conducted a short interview with him about his truck driving experience.

Q: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TRUCK DRIVING CAREER?

Alejandro:

First of all, it is something that I have been passionate about since I was a little kid.

Trucks and transportation busses have always caught my attention.

I can even remember myself as a child playing with a Tonka truck.

It was a truck that would carry dirt and if I saw a pile of dirt somewhere, you would find me sitting there playing with my toy on it.

That was my favorite truck.

Q: WHICH STATES HAVE YOU VISITED AS A PART OF YOUR JOB?

Alejandro:

Honestly, I have been to every state thanks to my job.

In all of them I have either delivered or loaded my truck.

Q: HOW DOES YOUR TYPICAL WORK DAY LOOK LIKE?

Alejandro:

Normally I like driving early in the morning, if the cargo allows me obviously.

I like to start my morning between 2 AM and 4 AM.

After pre-trip check up of my truck and trailer, I look at the weather in my routes and I look for alternative routes before taking off.

I always check on traffic among other things, but something I always keep in mind, it`s to be on time to my appointments.

That is why I constantly leave out on time and get there an hour or two before my scheduled appointment.

Q: WHAT WAS YOUR LONGEST HAUL? HOW DID YOU STAY ALERT DURING THIS TIME?

Alejandro:

The longest haul that I have ever done was with another company in which my wife would also travel with me.

It was a trip from one coast to another.

Me and my wife have always had good communication and gotten along well since the start of our relationship.

That is one of the reasons that we were able to work together to make that trip enjoyable as much as possible.

We would entertain ourselves with music, talking or anything else we could come up with.

Since Freightech is a pet friendly company, very often I take my dog on the road to keep me company on long hauls.

Q: HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR ROUTE?

Alejandro:

I plan my route by using apps that I have on my cellphone, which help me find new routes, weather, road work, tolls and gas prices as well as reviews of the deliveries and shippers.

Q: HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED ON THE ROAD?

Alejandro:

Considering that this was my passion since I was little boy, that passion had helped me stay motivated.

Every time I`m in my truck I get the excitement I used to have when I was little, with the difference that now it`s real and it`s what I do for money.

Q: HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN GOOD COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR DISPATCHER?

Alejandro:

My dispatcher, Melissa Wao has become like a part of my family.

Since the start, our communication has been honest and with respect.

Along with that she is very professional and has helped me find cargo in the areas that I like the best.

She does whatever is possible to get me there and help me out.

I will always respect her and admire her.

She is a great blessing.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS FROM NOW?

Alejandro:

Considering the fact that Freightech and Mr. Alek have given me the opportunity to obtain my own truck, within next five years I see myself having more trucks and growing professionally.

Q: WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FREIGHTECH TO OTHER TRUCK DRIVERS?

Alejandro:

I have already recruited two truck drivers with the Freightech referral program.

Both of them, Mr. Jose Otero and Mr. Xavier Montes are now owner operators.
