Interview with Freightech Truck Driver – Paul C.

0Trucking Experience

From the beginning to the present day Freightech Inc has been doing it`s best to support the clients, the employees and all truck drivers on their way to success.

Our company operates in a way where respect, cooperation, teamwork, self-initiative and the desire for prosperity are everyday elements.

Drivers are our most valuable asset and the face of our company.

One of the most well-qualified, efficient, determined and enthusiastic truck drivers that simply loves his job is Paul Cherry.

We made a short interview with him about his truck driving experience.

Q: How long are you Freightech truck driver and what is your position?

Paul:

I`ve been with Freightech since 12/31/2020.

I actually started hauling reefer freight on 1/1/2021.

I am a lease operator.

There are many reasons I chose this, but the only one that matters is the fact that I actually have a level of control.

Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while being on the road?

Paul:

I must admit that I find no humor in my profession.

This may come up again later, but my truck was smashed when I was on vacation, parked in a place that was near impossible to get smashed!

Never underestimate the power of ignorance!

Q: What is the worst thing that has happened to you while being on the road and what did you do in that situation?

Paul:

Other than the smashed truck, I got sick.

11 years as a truck driver and I have never been sick on the road.

I was scheduled for a load I accepted, woke up and realized that I had something severe!

In Alabama, I spent 48 hours drinking 2 gallons of water and sweating and sleeping.

Another 2 days to actually walk.

Definitely a bad week!

Q: How do you remain alert and safe on the road?

Paul:

I trained truck drivers, both in schools and OTR.

9 out of 11 OTR students are still rolling strong.

Staying alert is simple.

Pay attention to your job.

That`s a fact!

Safety? Obviously, follow the SMITH system.

It is the only way.

Stop when you can, avoid heavy traffic and pay attention to other drivers.

Fun fact! 85% of all big truck accidents are a direct result of a human failing to correctly operate the vehicle they have the charge of.

Q: What is the best place you have visited while driving across usa?

Paul:

Well, that`s a tough call for a fella from Florida.

I`ve run every major highway, every city, every state in the USA.

Personally, the state of Alabama has my heart, but, ask any driver and will echo this truth… Texas baby! Oh yeah!

Q: Do you have a favorite truck stop?

Paul:

The Petro Effingham, Illinois truck stop… Next door?

Chasers! Best Ribeye steak you will ever eat!

Locally sourced beef, great ladies working there too!

Nikki has been there 20 years and ask anyone!

She’s awesome! Always hugs me and says she’s missed me!

Even kissed me once!

Q: How do you maintain a good communication with your dispatcher?

Paul:

Christine is the best dispatcher.

She works so hard to get me the best loads.

We see things clearly together.

And, her voice is angelic!

Good contact?

It`s simple. In short… In the dock. Loaded. In the dock. Empty.

Plus, she`s a joy for short conversation when we have time.

I`m very fortunate to have had the opportunity to help train her alongside her bosses, because she literally started 1 week after I did!

It`s a wonderful relationship!

Q: Do you have any hobbies or activities you like to do while on home time?

Paul:

Well, I`m a carpenter.

Have been most of my life, and I have all 10 digits on my hands to prove my worth.

So, I like to build things.

This could get really long if I stated all my various activities.

But, hey, the beach rocks too in Florida, the cows, hogs, chickens rock in Illinois!

Q: what made you stay with freightech and would you recommend it to other truck drivers?

Paul:

I have the freedom and I run my show my way.

My way works.

About the recommended drivers, if I know them personally, know their past, their driving habits, how honest they are in their dealings, have an excellent attitude and a vision for their future, sure, I will recommend it.
